The Blocfor Self-Retracting Lifeline has been designed with safety and ergonomics in mind. The self-retracting lifeline is easy to handle and lightweight.

Manufactured by Tractel it features a cable or rope that automatically retracts to take up slack, keeping it out of the way while minimizing fall distance by instantly locking during a fall, protecting workers at height by reducing impact forces and providing short-distance fall arrest, often with added features like energy absorption (AES) for sharp edge use and even rescue capabilities.

Key Features & Functions:

Automatic Slack Take-Up: Pays out and retracts cable during normal movement, preventing trip hazards.
Rapid Fall Arrest: A sudden jerk activates a braking system (like a twin-disc or centrifugal mechanism) to stop a fall quickly, often within 2 feet.
Energy Absorption (AES): Some models (like the AES series) include an internal energy absorber to limit impact forces on the body, crucial for leading-edge applications (e.g., roofs, silos).
Durability & Versatility: Available in different materials (galvanized steel, stainless steel, synthetic rope) for various environments (construction, food industry, electrical).

How it Works:

Anchorage: The Blocfor unit is anchored to a secure overhead point or worn by the user (as a personal fall limiter).
Connection: A hook connects from the lifeline’s end to the worker’s harness.
Movement: As the worker moves, the cable smoothly extends and retracts.
Fall: If a fall occurs, the rapid pull on the cable locks the drum, arresting the fall within a short distance and keeping the worker from falling far.

The Blocfor self-retracting lifeline is built with a fall indicating device on the snap hook connector, a braking mechanism isolated from contaminants and corrosion resistant anti-spark parts.

Lightweight

The entire Blocfor range is designed with special light weight resistant materials. The 20-ft. model weight is less than 10 lbs.

Ergonomic

The Blocfor self-retracting lifeline allows hands-free positioning and is very easy to handle. Rubber wire end stop acts as a handle. Models of 50 ft. and over feature a casing with side handles.
